Banba is an experimental electronic music project, originating from the Dublin mountains fronted by Gav.
Formed in early 2020, Banba mixes a multitude of electronic genres, creating sonic textures and psychedelic layers, through manipulating samples and collaborating with other artists.
The tracks range from down tempo grooves, dusty lofi beats, to uplifting rave euphoria.
November Rain - Guns n Roses
My mother is a big Guns n Roses fan, I had this album on CD as a kid and this song is very sentimental to me, very epic and awesome, especially for 9 mins long. I try not to listen to it often to keep it sounding fresh for me, on cold nights lol.motions (feat. FLOOR CRY) - Shaolin Cowboy's 4am Remix
This track was shown to me by one of my crate digging friends, it turns me into a melancholic happy/sad piece of putty. Definitely a track for the end of a session. Can't beat warm drum breaks.
Please Forgive Me - David Gray
You can't beat David Gray, White Ladder is an amazing album, this track in particular is a gem. Would have heard it growing up but only really connected with it over the last few years. Really love the mix of electronic elements with the acoustic/instrument based elements. Another late night driving classic.
The Daisy - Ross From Friends
This is my favourite tune from 2021, the complexity of the production blows me away, the whole way through there are such subtle nuances that catch you each time listening. I have definitely been heavily influenced by this on some of my newer unreleased productions. Banger, particularly the vocal chops.
Wild One - Thin Lizzy
Absolutely love Thin Lizzy, hard to pick a track from them for this top 10. A timeless classic, and one to be played at my funeral in 2122. My friends are sick of me playing this one late in the night.
Too Late for U and M1 - DJ Seinfeld
There's a trend developing here of picking "late night songs". Absolutely love this, again, happy/sad melancholic vibes, really great song always have it on repeat.
Baby Can I Hold You - Tracy Chapman
A corny but a goodie. You can't beat a bit of heart pour. Tracy Chapman is a genius songwriter. Love this track for cycling/running weirdly enough. Can't help but sing along. My Dad had this on CD and it reminds me of driving around the Dublin/Wicklow mountains on a nice sunny day.
BDE Bonus - Mac Miller
Love this song, hits right in the core with his passing. Just right for listening after a long day to wind down. This one features a lot at the end of nights out. One of my friends showed this to me back in 2017
Rocky Took A Lover - Bell X1
Went to see them in the Aviva before and they blew my mind. This song has been around for a while but it still holds its weight in sentiment for me. Lovely acoustic version on youtube too. Paul Noonan I am a secret admirer. He does a great collab with Daithi - Take the wheel I think its called.
Seeing Aliens (Extended Breakthrough Listen) - DJ Koze
This one really influenced me into starting to make music. It can only be described as a journey of life. I love the harshness at the beginning and how it transitions into such a euphoric transcendental break. The subtle use of the spray can throughout is a clever addition.
