Lisa Gorry a Kildare based singer/songwriter released her debut EP today so be sure to check that out as well! The 4 track folk-pop EP 'It Was You (And Me)' brings resolution to Gorry’s debut, ‘Is It Me?’ and is a beautifully crafted message of hope and self-love. It highlights a shift in self-understanding for Gorry, brought to the fore in the title single ‘It Was You (and Me)’, released last month which brought attention to the importance of doing the work and being able to come into a new relationship with eyes and heart wide open. The second single, ‘Home’, released along with the EP, illustrates the peace that can be found in being honest with both yourself and your partner and was written in the latter stages of lockdown with the aid of a songwriting circle prompt.
Bell X1 - Lamposts
My favourite band ever. Flock was one of my first albums, and this song always stuck out to me for it’s tender lyrics.
Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place
Inspired a single off the EP, ‘Home’. It’s just a brilliantly upbeat song that holds special meaning.
Villagers - Nothing Arrived
Most of the songs that have impacted me are lyrically driven, and I think this is a really cleverly written song.
Lisa Hannigan - Teeth
I’ve always been a big Lisa Hannigan fan and she’s been a big inspiration to me in terms of both songwriting and performance. This is the song that I always come back to when I need a good emotional cleansing.
Kojaque - Eviction Notice
Such a groovy track that highlighted the talent that’s coming out of the Irish music scene.
Mick Flannery - Grace’s Waltz
Really influenced the story telling nature of my songwriting. This whole album was a big influence.
Cathy Davey - Cold Man’s Nightmare
A deadly set of lyrics that resonated with me in terms of it’s feeling - I’ve definitely been a cold man’s nightmare in the past.
The Frames - Say It To Me Now
Another emotional cleanser - I come back to this song again and again when I’m not in the form.
Damien Rice - Delicate
I’ve been trying to capture the essence of this song for years. It’s just so gorgeous, lyrically and performatively, and features in another single off the EP, ‘He’s Gone to Build Boats’.
Pillow Queens - Rats
A belter.
